March 2021 - Spring is coming.

Updated: Mar 16, 2021

If you've been down to the school's football pitches recently, you may have noticed that the neglected, overgrown patch of land adjacent to the school has undergone some major changes in the last months.

From humble beginnings in June, gathering volunteers to hack at brambles and thistles with secateurs and shears, to this grey March where we're starting to see big changes happen.

A new shed’s gone up, pathways are being laid, compost beds built and fences set up to divide up the garden into the eventual areas of wildflower meadow, sensory garden and growing spaces we'll see.

There's obviously a lot more we want to do. But for now, it's all hands on deck to get our new poly tunnel up and covered and filled with compost, so we can start growing some great produce for the community. Some of our volunteers have already started growing seeds on dining room tables and window sills, it's just a final push now to get them into the poly tunnel to get the light and warmth they need to thrive.

We've also had lots of donations of plants, including hydrangea, rhododendron, raspberry canes and strawberry plants, which will help to give the space a bit of life and colour come the spring. The raspberry canes will be planted in the forest school garden to help them on their way, since they haven't been able to be on site due to the ongoing pandemic.

We're still running our socially distanced volunteer weekends, and will be moving to filling up both weekend days soon. If you can help, even for an hour or so, we'd love to have you. Get in touch for more information.
